Brandi Brantley recently killed herself, as she waited to be booked in the Dekalb County Jail on April 3. She was found unconscious under a blanket and it appeared that she had asphyxiated herself with a telephone cord. It was found by the coroner that she had hanged herself. Now, the family of the woman is demanding that videotapes of the room where she was being held be released. The father of the deceased girl is suing Dekalb County and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department for not preventing her death.
The father feels that the officers at the jail were responsible for his daughter’s wellbeing and he believes that they neglected this duty. On April 14, he requested that the surveillance videotapes be released, and on April 16, the judge ordered that the tapes be handed over to the deputy clerk until the court made further orders.
It is expected that a decision regarding the tapes, which may contain vital evidence for or against the officers in the Dekalb County jail.
