Fatal Skydiving Accident

Although widely publicized, a fatal skydiving accident is relatively rare in the United States, with only approximately 70 accidents worldwide reported each year. Nevertheless, a death while skydiving may result in a legal claim against the person(s) and/or company who acted negligently so as to cause the skydiver's death. For instance, if a skydive instructor failed to properly train the skydiver on his or her first jump, or failed to give him or her an essential piece of safety information, then there might be a viable claim for wrongful death. Likewise, if the skydive instructor gave the skydiver incorrect information prior to the jump, or instructed him or her to jump at an inappropriate time, or in inappropriate weather conditions, then a viable wrongful death lawsuit might ensue. Alternatively, there may be a legal claim against the manufacturer of skydiving equipment if a defect in the equipment was the proximate cause of the skydiver's death.
