Chicago Cubs Sued for Wrongful Death

August 19, 2009

In 2007, a 21-year-old man was killed after a wall, which was set to be demolished, fell on him during a storm. The wall was part of a carwash, located at the corner of Clark and Waveland streets- just west of Wrigley Field in Chicago. During a powerful storm with heavy rain and 70mph gusts of wind, the man took shelter behind the wall.

The wall fell and pinned the man underneath. Cleanup crews found him badly injured under the rubble. Eight days later, the man died in the hospital because of head and neck injuries.

The property was owned by the Chicago Cubs team, so the man’s mother is suing it for wrongful death, negligence, public nuisance, and premises liability. She is asking for an unspecified amount of damages, but at least a minimum of $50,000- the amount required to file the case in the Cook County court.
