Recently, three families from the Boston area have joined to press wrongful death charges against the FBI. They claim that the organization did not do enough to control the actions of Irish mob boss, James “Whitey” Bulger and his right-hand man, Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi.
The three families each represent a victim that was killed by the men during the 1980s. However, the remains of one of the bodies were not discovered until 2000. The courts are trying to determine whether a statute of limitations applies to this case and if the FBI can be held liable for the wrongful deaths.
According to several sources, the two mob bosses were informants for the FBI and the family feels that the FBI should have taken measures to keep the mobsters under control. Flemmi, who is currently serving a life sentence for 10 counts of murder and who has admitted to one of the three murders for which the FBI is being sued, said that his boss killed one of the other three because she knew of the men’s relationship with the FBI.
